Backyard farm

Since having my daughter, my whole mindset has changed when it comes to nearly everything in my life!
One of them is where and how I want to live.

I was a city girl living in Sydney, Australia, and now I’m in Alabama planning a dream of one day owning a farm with my little family!
Totally opposite of who I use to be!
My husband has converted me and I’m so glad he did!
I would have missed out on all of this!

His dream is now Our dream!

I realized that I want my child to grow up around farm animals.
I want her to know where her food comes from, how to grow her own and be self sufficient.
I want her to learn that Farmers are important,
because they keep the country fed.
Without them and their hard work, we would go hungry.

Last and most important, I want her to know that God created everything and we are to take care of His earth!

Every year, we attempt to have a small garden filled with vegetables that we love! Just enough to feed our family.
We don’t have great soil for gardening, so Ellie and
I have been picking up rocks from the garden spot each night we’re outside
and placing them by the little stream in our backyard.

Because my husband and I both work full time jobs, and I work every weekend, we have been gardening every chance we get, in the evenings.
Last night my daughter helped her daddy hoe the ground
to prepare it for sun flowers so we can take her yearly pictures by them.

Ellie even had her own little hoe! She was absolutely adorable out there tearing down the nicely built hills her daddy put together!
She thinks she’s being a big help and that’s all that matters!

After a short break on the swing, my daughter fed the chickens all by herself!

We live in the city limits of a small town, so we can’t have large farm animals. So for now, we only have our little backyard chickens!
They’re not laying yet but hopefully soon they will!
We also got 5 more baby chicks that are not in the coop yet.

My husband and I are so thrilled that she loves her chickens!
She has been handling them since the first day we got them!
This back yard mini farm is just a small taste of what we want her to experience!
After a photoshoot on Sunday with baby cows,
Ellie got to feed one for the first time!
God willing, one day she will be able to do that with her own cows
in our own farm!

*A sneak peek of the cuteness! <3
